Deep Tissue Massage
What Is A Deep Tissue Massage?
A deep tissue massage is when your therapist applies slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints).
Deep tissue massages are especially helpful for breaking up scar tissue that has formed due to injury. Breaking up scar tissue can release tension in the affected muscles and connective tissue. It can also help decrease inflammation and promote blood flow which can speed up the healing process.
When Is A Deep Tissue Massage helpful?
Deep tissue massages promote healing and improve a person’s overall function in a number of different circumstances. Some people have reported that deep tissue massages help with:
-
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic back pain
- Sprains and strains
- Inflammation
- Tennis elbow
- Plantar fasciitis
- Workout recovery
There are many other situations where decreased tension and improved muscle flow can help, but these are some of the most common.
What Should You Expect
The first thing that your therapist will do when you come in for your appointment is determined any problem areas that need to be focused on. Some deep tissue massages work your entire body, while other times it is appropriate to focus on a particular problem.
Deep tissue massage helps your muscles move the way that they are supposed to. This can alleviate strain on the muscles, tendons and joints to allow your body to move easier and with less pain.
